Active Profile pledges support for the Centre for Better Births
12/03/2009

ACTIVE Profile is backing an initiative to create a groundbreaking childbirth research centre in Liverpool.
The Better Births Appeal has been launched to build and equip a world class facility dedicated to making pregnancy and labour safer through advanced scientific research.
Over the last few years internationally recognised researchers and clinicians from The University of Liverpool and Liverpool Women’s Hospital, as well as staff at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, have been busy building up a research focus on difficult labours, recurrent miscarriages and high-risk pregnancies.
The Centre for Better Births, located at Liverpool Women’s Hospital, will provide world-class laboratories for the team to build on their already groundbreaking research.
Anna Heyes, managing director of Active Profile, has become an Ambassador for the Better Births Appeal.
Anna revealed: “I couldn’t believe it when I heard that women who experience difficulties with carrying and delivering a baby receive the same treatment in 2009 as women did in 1954.
“This new centre is vitally important because it is an opportunity to make births safer for women throughout the world.
“Active Profile has pledged to raise £1,000 towards the Better Births Appeal during 2009 and I would urge other companies to join us in offering their support to this worthwhile cause.”
Liverpool Women’s Hospital is the largest maternity hospital in Europe, delivering more than 8,000 babies each year.
In the UK alone 250,000 pregnancies end in miscarriage each year.
Helen O’Donnell from the Centre for Better Births comments:
“We are delighted that Active Profile has decided to support the Better Births Appeal and we hope that many more companies will do the same in 2009. Liverpool is leading the way on better births and our academics and clinical practitioners have the potential to make a real difference for women around the world. It is essential that we raise enough money to build this Centre and we thank Active Profile for recognising the importance of its work.”
